This exhibition
brings together over forty watercolour paintings, made by members of The
Claremont Art Group. The theme of the project was, ‘The Tempest’, and they took
inspiration from sources such as J.M.W.Turner’s paintings of storms.
Many of the
members had never used watercolour prior to this course. Over several weeks
they learned how diverse and complex watercolour techniques can be, and
developed an understanding of how to work with these techniques in layers, to
create the atmospheric, and highly skilled paintings that you see in this
exhibition.
As always, the
artists showed great tenacity and patience in working with this difficult
medium, and as you can see, they were equal to their subject matter. They weathered
the watercolour storm! This exhibition reflects the diversity and individuality
the group always bring to their projects, and I believe they have created some
of the most successful, beautiful, and unique work they have made over the past
few years.
